YJ Wrangler
Introduced in 1987 as a replacement for the CJ-7, the YJ was sold in the US as 'Wrangler' but due to a copyrighting duplication could only be sold as 'YJ' in Canada. The domestic YJ introduced the Dana35 rear axle, which is not as strong as the previously used Dana44 in CJ models, and was arguably weaker than slightly modified AMC20 axles used in CJ7 and CJ8s.
The carbeureted 258cid I-6 engine was replaced by the slightly smaller (242cid) fuel-injected 4.0L 'High-Output' inline-6 in 1991, the same year the improved engine debuted in the XJ lineup as well.
