XJ Series

Introduced in 1984, the XJ body style remained relatively unchanged until 1997, when the exterior was 'smoothed' although it retained the same basic lines as earlier models.

Initially available with a somewhat anemic 2.5L inline-4 engine or the highly problematic 2.8L V6, the Cherokee really came into its own with the introduction of the strong and torquey fuel-injected 4.0L Inline-6 in 1987. This engine had been available in many forms for 25+ years in other Jeep vehicles, but the 4.0L engine first used in the XJ added fuel injection to the mix, making the XJ a strong, comfortable grocery-getter and highly capable four-wheel drive.

These schedules are from the 1996 XJ Manual, but should suffice for most similarly-equipped Cherokees and Comanche pickups.
