Rear Wiper FixOne of the common problems with the rear wiper is that after a few years the plastic pin holding the wiper line breaks off. From the dealer it's a VERY expensive replacement, but for only about $3 I fixed mine today. I went to a local hobby shop and picked up 2 feet of blue silicon fuel line and a brass 6-32 Pressure Fitting for model airplane fuel lines. These are what I found, similar brands will also work of course.
I found a drill bit that was close to the same size as the fitting and turned it by hand to drill out the broken plastic pin. Head into the cab and squirt the washer a few times to clear out any crud, then put some Thread-Lock or a light bead of JB Weld on the threads and screw the fitting into the plastic. It's effectively self-tapping and the goo on the threads just helps ensure it doesn't leak. ![]() This is the fitted brass barb before attaching the silicon fuel line The only thing left was to snip the UV-whitened zipties that held the old hose, replace it with a cut-to-fit length of approximately 14" of silicon hose, and then ziptie it again. Don't pull the zipties too tight since they will squeeze the line. That's it - Three dollars and ten minutes' time... ![]() You can see the blue silicon fuel line on the right side |
